How to help a new user (both to computers and Yahoo) with a failed original Yahoo Registration

What does a new user (both to computers and Yahoo) need to do when an original registration and email set up has apparently failed?  He can receive key codes on his cell phone but does not know how to use them, and the only responses are "email not recognized". and "Account unavalible - too many attempts"

Security questions are no longer used for verification. Delete them if they haven't been removed automatically. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/account/delete-havent-removed-automatically-sln4842.html

We take your account's privacy and security very seriously, and we'll only let you reclaim an account if you can prove you're the rightful owner.

When you register for an account, it's up to you to provide the most up-to-date and valid recovery info. Your best option to avoid losing access is to update your recovery info if you get a new phone number or change your alternate email address.

To get in to your account you need to use the sign-in helper at https://login.yahoo.com/forgot?lang=en-US which will send a code to the recovery phone or email that only you have access to. If you don't have access to recovery you can't recover.

It is an automated system, if you don't have the needed tools no one can help you.

Make a new account and be sure your keep recovery up to date to avoid problems like this in the future. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/create-yahoo-account-sln2056.html

I fully understand the privacy policy as I have been a yahoo user for over 20 years and I am not asking for any specifics on any account.  I am only looking for generalities as to what he needs to do if he can not log in at all.  Is this forum accessable to any and all, or just registered users.  I have spent almost 3 days trying to help this individual get back in, or get into his account with out any succeess and this is the first time I have received  an even halfway constructive reply.  Most of what I have seen has been one dead end link that lead to another dead end link.

This seems to be your first time in the help community and I don't see any other posts you have made.  And I'm not trying to make things hard for you, it's just a legal requirement.  You'd be surprised how many try "social engineering" to try and compromise someones account.  "My elderly mother forgot her password..." says the hacker.

We do have some clues though, the "too many attempts" means the account is locked because of failed log in attempts, but setting a new password (or just waiting for a while) can fix that..

So help him run the sign-in helper and see if thata gets him in.  If it does change the password and check the email for problems.  If it doesn't post again with what happened and we can look at other things.

Well, we got his account set up but we were using my computer (he is at  my house right now) and they added his email address to my list of emails and now we are worse off than we were before.  What do I do now?  Delete his account from my emails and start over or what.  I have never seen anything so mixed up in my 50 some odd years of computing.

Okietom,

Is there anyway to contact you and/or Yahoo directly on this matter?  There has been a huge misunderstanding here ( I can prove it) and I would like to get this matter resolved once and for all.

The above might lead you to chat or email with a Yahoo Customer Cares specialist, chat is spotty, and only available 6 am to 6 pm.  When wait times get too long they switch to email, so If you don't get it first time don't give up.  Also it may not work if you are not in the US.

Re: How to help a new user (both to computers and Yahoo) with a failed original Yahoo Registration

I have not had a chance to look at the latest post yet but, As a fantasy football commissioner (laugh if you will but the issue goes deeper than fantasy leagues) my issue has not been addressed to this point because I have a new owner who also happens to be a long time close friend who still cannot access his personal account and I don't have an answer for him.  But the issue is really his and he needs to contact you directly - which is kind of hard since he is no longer able to access his account, if the account still exists.  Apparently yahoo has drawn a conclusion that he and I are the one and same person, which could not be further from the truth and I want to step out of the picture and let yahoo deal directly with him but with Yahoo's currently restricted access to customer service, it is extremely hard for a member in good standing to get in touch with them - much less one who is having account trouble.

I will take a look at the latest post before posting further and if there is anything there that will help him try to get his account straightened out I will do my best to help him out.  If not, then he does need to deal with yahoo personally so that there will be no further mistaken identity issues.
