Getting rid of spam

I would like to know how to block my spam mail from my yahoo email account.  My yahoo has a filter that takes the spam out of my email and puts in a separate spam folder.  How do you block the spam from getting in the folder in the first place?  I have been currently just deleteing them by emptying the folder, but the next time I get on my email there are at least 100 more.   I don't want any at all and don't know how to block the spam from getting in the folder to begin with.

Are you viewing your mail from a laptop, desktop, phone, or tablet?  The only surefire way of keeping your account from receiving spam is listed in the next article.

Closing your Yahoo! account - https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail/SLN2044.html?impressions=true

Once you complete the steps in the article above I can guarantee you will receive no more spam in that account.  If closing your account is not an option then try the following.

You can improve your spam-filtering options by routing your Yahoo mail through an external email filtering service.  The next article shows some options if you are using a laptop or desktop running Windows as the operating system.  You can also find options that will run on alternate operating systems

You will need to use an email program to view your Yahoo mail.  The next article shows some options for this.

If you've looked at the stats it's estimated that over 90 percent of the emails sent daily are considered spam so I would agree there's nothing you can do to prevent all spam from coming into your Inbox.

You could also use disposable email addresses to control the amount of spam you receive.  Say you have created a new Yahoo account.  First thing to do is to create some disposable email addresses and only give out those email addresses, never give anyone your primary email address.

For Yahoo Classic
Disposable addresses in Yahoo Mail - https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/sln16026.html

For New Mail
Create, delete, edit, and use disposable addresses in New Mail - https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/sln28338.html

If you find you start getting too much spam coming to one of these email address you can delete it and create a new one.

You could also sign up for the SpamCop service.  This let you report the spam you receive and they send complaint notices to the ISP that the spam came from.

Re: Getting rid of spam

The best you can do is to report those messages as spam. Depending on the number of similar reports, our Anti-Spam filter may take some time to react and start actively blocking them from reaching you. In the meanwhile, you can either create filters or block those email addresses

Re: Getting rid of spam

None of the responses helped with the spam problem.  I'm not getting spam in my email, but it filters it out and puts in a separate "spam" folder.  I needed to find out how to block the spam from going to the folder in the first place.  Right now, I just created a new folder called JUNK and moved them there.  I tried to block the spam but wouldn't let me do it.  It just keeps growing more and more every day.  They said to block individual emails but there are 100's of them.

Re: Getting rid of spam

I have Yahoo Mail Pro and here is how I block spam emails:

check the box to the left of the spam email.  select "more" up in the line of options; click on "Block", click "yes" to block future emails from the address and to delete the current email.

Now, having said that, when my wife tries the same thing in her Yahoo Mail Pro, it doesn't work.  I have submiited several help requests to yahoo for her to make it work in her account but so far, no response from Yahoo Specialists.

@tkp_42

Have your wife post here in the forums and we'll take a look at her account. If she adds the address manually to the blocked list via the settings, does it work from there?

Re: Getting rid of spam

L O L......................2018 and we're STILL getting "SPAM" in our inboxes.

NONE of these will EVER work.  Just live with it.  Nothing you do with your Yahoo! account will prevent ALL/ANY SPAM from ever entering your inbox or SPAM folder.  Fact of life!  I have a friend who has a PAID Yahoo! account and gets TONS of SPAM.  Same with ANY other POP email account.

Deleting your email and creating another with a few 'tips and tricks' seems to work for some.

Instead of creating a "typical account", add as many "special characters" in your email as you can fit comfortably and still remember your login name.  I've found that something like this helps:

**Username Protected**@**Username Protected**@yahoo.com   or   **Username Protected**@**Username Protected**@yahoo.com

I have that on my Ymail (another form of Yahoo! mail, along with rocketmail from Yahoo!)
